Along the waterfront on Western Avenue near the intersection with Essex Avenue is this artistic monument in honor of Nathaniel Haraden, the sailing master of the U.S.S. Constitution during the war with the Tripoli pirates. The sailing master is responsible for the navigation of the ship. The log book he kept detailed the attacks of August 3, 7, and 28, as well as the final action on September 3 of 1804.
An artistic bas relief sculpture of the U.S.S. Constitution adorns the plaque which is inscribed:
