Nakhon Si Thammarat is a province of Thailand located on the east coast of the long Malaysian peninsular, approximately 700kms south of Bangkok. The capital city of the province shares the name of the province (as does every Thai provincial capital). Near the city centre is the City Hall. In design not too dissimilar from the standard white, rectangular structure to be seen anywhere in the Kingdom. Atop the entrance is a date: 2507, a date in the Buddhist Era, which translates to 1964 in the Common Era. Somewhat unusual is the lack of the two Thai characters (which resemble 'WA') indicating the Buddhist Era, preceding the numerals. This date can be seen from the main road.
