More accurately it’s at the junction of Queens Road and Station Road on a small green.
Many plans are talked about regarding adding Rose Gardens and general improvements to the green but little or nothing has ever happened.
As ever the excellent UKNIWM has supplied all the info below, follow the link for more detailed information although the phrases NO, NOT KNOWN and NOT APPLICABLE appear rather a lot so I’ve tried to find out more info from the web.
However apart from finding out it appeared first on the local maps in 1923 I have drawn a blank.
So what inscriptions do we have on the three metal plaques?
TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THE BELMONT MEN WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918 AND THOSE MEN AND WOMEN WHO GAVE THIER LIVES IN THE WORLD WAR 1939 – 1945
The two other sides list the names and ranks of those who fell.
The monument itself is a cross made of stone, 3.4m high x 3.1m wide.
St Johns Church is opposite and is soon to be waymarked and has a geocache.
