Sundial mounted in the inner patio of the Sorbonne University.
The Sorbonne building is located in the Quartier Latin (Latin Quarter) and his the historic house of the University of Paris.
This Sundial is mounted in an inside wall facing an inner patio inside the University (access is by the number 17 of the Rue de Sorbonne).
The sundial has the latin inscription sicut umbra dies nostri (our days pass like a shadow) on the top and the date 1876 in roman numerals (MDCCCLXXVI) bellow and a name (AUBERT, probably the manufacturer).
On the top there are 3 figures and a horse cart and in the bottom 2 angels probably representing the students.
Records show there was a sundial here in 1554. There were once three sundials, but in 1859 the Sorbone was reconstructed, and only the south facing dial was replaced.
Sundial Type: Vertical - Wall mounted dial plate
