The Reitz Home is a home, museum, and the center of the historical Preservation Society. The home was built in 1871 by John Augustus Reitz, father of Francis Joseph Reitz, whom has many things named after him throughout Evansville. Reitz was a philanthropist and was well known for charity work.
This Victorian home has graced the pages of "Victorian Homes Monthly" on 9 occassions and been featured in a book entitled "Victorian America". It has become one of the treasures near the riverfront in downtown Evansville, leading to a revival of sorts in the beautiful homes in that area.
