The station was built in 1872. Two years later the line was extended to what is now called Interlaken-Ost and has become bigger and more important over the decades.
The station is owned by the BLS, but is also used by trains of SBB and DB. All trains from and to Interlaken-Ost are also stopping in the smaller station. These are regional trains to Thun or Zweisimmen and an Intercity to Basel once every hour. Four times a day this is an German ICE which extends the line to Berlin.
The landing of the commercial passenger ships on Lake Thun is just next to the station.
