The memorial was placed in 1921 most likely in remembrance of World War I though not specified. The memorial is huge boulder with a bronze plaque. The memorial is inscribed:

Town Of Willington, Connecticut
In Sacred Memory And Appreciation
Of Those Brave Men Who Went Forth
In Response To The Call Of Our
Country to Fight For Its Freedom
And Peace.
