The sign is on Taylor St. Around the border of the sign is thick faux rope. It represents the boating history and the region's closeness to the bay. On either side of the sign are birds. One pelican type bird is carved in word. Another smaller bird sits on the other side.
Alviso is currently an area of the city of San Jose. The city used to be incorporated. It was incorporated on March 4, 1852. In 1968, it was consolidated into the city of San Jose.
