According to information found at the Wabash History Museum:
"One of the major construction projects funded by the New Deal Congress included building new post office buildings. As part of the Public Works Art Project, Indiana Farm-Sunday Afternoon was painted by Alan Tompkins in 1938 for $540. The post office in North Manchester is one of three in the state with a mural painted by Tompkins. The mural measure 9'6" by 4'. 36 of the 37 murals commissioned for Hoosier post offices remain today."
