"The 215-foot tower was designed by University Architect-Emeritus, Cabell Childress (1932-2006), who drew inspiration from the southern tower of Chartres Cathedral, France. It was completed in 1999. For images of Chartres Cathedral, please visit www.bc.edu/bc_org/avp/cas/fnart/arch/chartres.html
The 65-bell carillon is located directly under the golden spire. It was cast in 1999 by Royal Eijsbouts Bellfoundry in The Netherlands. It is the 11th largest in North America by weight and the 8th largest by number of bells.
The largest bell, weighing 5,300 kg., bears the names of the sixteen DU chancellors who served between 1864 and 1999.
