Although this was originally constructed as a World War I monument, it now honors those who served in more recent conflicts.

(On front of base, incised lettering:) UNION CITY HONORS/THE HEROIC DEAD/AND THOSE/WHO ANSWERED THE CALL/OF THEIR COUNTRY/IN THE WORLD WARD/APRIL 6, 1917 - NOV. 11, 1918/WORLD WAR II/DEC. 7, 1941 - SEPT. 2, 1945 (On left side of base, incised lettering:) KOREAN WAR/JUNE 27, 1950/JAN. 31, 1955 (On right side of base, incised lettering:) ERECTED 1926/VIETNAM WAR/AUG. 5, 1964/MAY 7, 1975 unsigned Founder's mark appears.
Description: A uniformed World War I soldier marching up a hill with his proper left foot forward. In his hands he holds his rifle on his proper right side. The sculpture is mounted on a tall rectangular base.

Remarks: The monument commemorates the soldiers from Union City, Pennsylvania who served in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The inscription on a plaque located on the right side of the sculpture reads: IN MEMORY OF/SGT. LEROY FLADRY/AND/LT. COLIN NICHOLS/BY/V.F.W. POST 6773/AND/AMERICAN LEGION POST (illegible number)/1968.
Condition: Surveyed 1995 June. Well maintained.

PHYSICAL LOCATION: Northeast corner of the intersection of First Avenue and West High Street, Union City, PA 16438.
DIFFERENCES NOTED BETWEEN THE INVENTORY LISTING AND YOUR OBSERVATIONS AND RESEARCH: A new plaque for Sgt. Leroy Fladry and Lt. Colin Nichols has been installed on a post next to the monument. This replaces the badly worn one that was located on the right side of the monument.
A new fiberglass bayonet has been installed by MFG of Union City to replace the original.
