On the west side of the museum building is a granite monument honoring Betty Butts, who has created seven of the sculptures on display. Her likeness is engraved on the monument.

The monument reads: "On the 23rd day of August 1992, we honor Betty Butts of California for her continued interest in the Hall of Fame. She is a nationally known artist having exhibited all over the U.S. and has just completed her fifth portrait in bronze, the Sioux chief Sitting Bull, to be dedicated on this date."
