Marker text - west face:
Z-125
Shenandoah County
Area 510 Square Miles
Formed in 1772 from Frederick, and first named Dunmore for Lord Dunmore, Governor of Virginia 1771-75. In 1778 the county was renamed for the Shenandoah River.
east face:
Z-125
Page County
Area 322 Square Miles
Formed in 1831 from Shenandoah and Rockingham, and named for John Page, Governor of Virginia 1802-5. Luray Cave is in this county.
Marker is located on top of Massanutten Mtn on the south side of Highway US211, which connects Luray and I-81. Noting the seam along the bottom right above the post shows that the marker has been broken (auto accident?) and rewelded back together.
