The historic district application was first listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, highlighting 53 buildings from its earliest days. In 2003, the application was updated to encompass the current town boundaries, which were expanded in 1994.

Being somewhat isolated, Scottsville has retained much of its mid-
18th century character. There is now a protecting levee, built in 1986, to protect the downtown from the James River which originally provided its existence.
The town is promoting tourism as uncertain what else keeps it on the map.
The contributing property is a brick commercial building constructed in 1832. Address is 300-310-320 Valley Street as it has been subdivided.
