Dwite A. Morgan (Bicycle Bob) was a homeless man who lived in Edmond for 25 years. Many in the community got to know Bob by helping him in a variety of ways. On October 18, 2009, Dwite's body was found on 1st St. near the railroad tracks, in an alley near Downtown Edmond. Travis Monroe Jim, a 20 year old homeless man, led authorities to Dwite's body. Travis was arrested as the prime suspect and even confessed, but was later freed.
Three friends were in the possession of one of Dwite's fingers, and the investigation took a turn. They claimed to only have taken the finger, not killed Bicycle Bob, and their defense is focusing on Travis Monroe Jim as the most likely suspect.
First Christian Church held a memorial service for Dwite Morgan, where hundreds showed up to pay their respects. Darla Laughlin donated the headstone to commemorate Bicycle Bob's life and honor the man she befriended.
Donations were accepted for the funeral service, and the funds exceeding costs were donated to The Hope Center and Breakfast on Boulevard where Dwite often ate.
Bicycle Bob is buried at Gracelawn Cemetery, His headstone is engraved with a bicycle, and at the time of my visit someone had left a small toy bicycle as well.
As of today, December 7. 2011, news stations and the newspapers in the area have reported that Dwite's body will be exhumed near the end of the month. The purpose of the exhumation is to find out if the tip of the murder weapon is still in the skull of the deceased.
