The shell of the building was first constructed for Rockwell International, but they never completed nor occupied it. It was later bought by Intel for their high-tech microchip fabrication plant here (Fab 23), employing several thousand workers. When one of the common semiconductor economic downswings didn't rebound enough, they closed the plant. No buyers were found for several years. Meanwhile, the county offices were in need of repair/updating/consolidating, so they bought this building. It had plenty of parking and offices. All the expensive cleanrooms are not yet removed; they may likely be converted to large meeting rooms. The east entrance street is still called Intel Way on Google maps.
