This shelter is situated at the northern boundary of the coniferous forest on the slopes of Aakenustunturi (tunturi means "fell"). Here the forest gives way to birch, and then to the open boulder fields of the fell.
It is a day shelter, intended mainly for rest stops, but can be used for overnight stays if necessary.
Nearby is the 1944 crash site of a Junkers Ju52 aircraft, hence the name of the hut, lentokonekota, literally "aircraft kota". A kota is a kind of Sami tent. These wooden shelters are similar in style.
