The Settlement of Cárcoda Castro, occupying an area of about 10 hectares, is located near the village of Carvalhais, in the municipality of São Pedro do Sul, on the slopes of the Serra da Arada, at 610 meters high and is composed of several dozen homes and fifteen paintings scattered rocks.

The Settlement presents as natural defenses, the river of Contença and the river of Varosa, and as a edified defense, a wall and a moat that was flooded in case of danger.

The houses of this Settlement have a circular, oval or rectangular form, some of them featuring a lobby surrounded by a wall. The walls were made of small stones and clay, it's roof was made of plant materials, but it was later used the Roman tile. In this settlement were used fireplaces, sinks and silos.

In the area of the settlement were found lithic objects, bronze and iron materials, Roman coins, fragments of glass and various ceramics.

This settlement has its origin in the Late Bronze Age and was occupied till the end of the third century.

It was ranked by IPPAR as a Building of Public Interest in October 20, 1955.
