Poirot decides to take a holiday at the seaside, accompanied by Captain Hastings. Poirot’s actual motive for the holiday is to secretly listen to a talk given by Chief Inspector Japp nearby. Whilst on holiday Poirot and Hastings take a trip to the Lake District. On the coach to the Lake District they befriend a young woman taking some valuable miniatures for sale. At their destination the young woman discovers the miniatures have been stolen. Poirot doesn’t want to get involved, so Hastings decides to investigate. Hastings gets hold of the wrong end of the stick and mistakenly pursues a man eloping with a famous authoress. Eventually Poirot steps in and proves that the robbery was faked in order to sell the miniatures and to retrieve them as stolen.
Captain Hastings goes to see the intended recipient of the miniatures at Lake Castle Hotel, in reality, Wray Castle. The clips show Hastings and police constables outside the castle.
