The flagpole and etched in stone quote at Chisholm Elementary School is a memorial to the victims of the April 19, 1995 Murrah Federal Building Bombing in OKC. The stone is part of the original Murrah Building, and the quote is by a Chisholm Elementary School student.

On April 19, 1995, American Timothy McVeigh detonated bombs that were placed in the Murrah Federal Building. Officials determined that McVeigh's friend Terry Nichols helped plan the attack and secure the explosives. The entire world watched news coverage of this horrible tragedy that took 168 lives, including 19 children under the age of 6. More than 680 people were injured in the attack.

Timothy McVeigh's trial began in 1997, and he was executed in 2001, at the age of 33. Terry Nichols is serving a sentence of 161 consecutive life terms for his part in the crime.

An absolutely beautiful memorial has been placed at the former site of the Murrah building. It is a must-see for anyone visiting the OKC area. A museum on-site gives detailed information on the history of this event, and rangers on site can answer any questions you may have. It is free to walk around the memorial, but there is a charge to enter the museum.

Text on memorial:

There will always be a place in our hearts where we remember the tragedy of April 19, 1995 and those who embraced us with their hands and hearts.
