A twin engine B-25 bomber named Old John Feathered Merchant was outfitted into a VIP Ferry Plane. On July 28, 1945 Army 0577 was returning to Sioux Falls from the east when the pilot got lost in a fog. Traveling 250 mph the bomber slammed into the 78th floor of the NY Empire State Building. Killed in the tragic accident were the 3 people in the plane and 11 people working in the building that day.
