Of all the speedways I've visited none are remotely like this one. New Paris Speedway is a "good ole boy" track. They do sometimes bring in cars and drivers from out of the area for special nights but for the most part this track is a locals affair.

Its a small paved track located in the middle of nowhere which probability helps keep it successful. Its also not a fancy place at all but its no cow pasture either, just don't expect "upscale". You can drive in a camper and stay the night in the grass parking lot. You can bring in your own beer. You can back your pickup right up to the edge of the seating/track area and fire up a charcoal grill with your own fixin's. If you didn't bring any there are 4 concession stands and a beer barn to find what you might want. Its a really laid back atmosphere.

As for the races and events, they can be interesting as well. They of course have late model, stock, super stock etc. but the end of the night can be a real blast too as they have the spectator races. Some nights its figure 8 for them as well. After some serious bragging all night long you can race what you drove in the place with. Be aware though, fresh blood draws attention. Part of the fun of spectator races is "pegging" your opponent in the rear quarter panel right off the line and spinning him out of the way. Of course pay back comes when the one spun out of the way lays in wait at the intersection of the figure 8 to return the favor. It's a bit harder to do though because the other guy has some speed up by this point and it's not so easy to hit him. All of this is done in the car you may have drove in.

In the past there were also the rollover contests. On those the winner is decided by how many sides of the car he can flip onto the ground as he rolls the car after coming off a single tire ramp designed to flip the car. The more sides the car hits on the higher the score. To keep it even more interesting they don't pull the cars before you out of the way, gives you something to hit or land on!

It's a fun place to visit. As of 2011 prices were $10 a head for adults, $2 for kids.

You might want to google them and check out the web site for the latest on what will be happening on any given Saturday night. Racing season is spring through late summer.
