NEXRAD Doppler station located outside of the studios of Jet 24 and Fox 66 in Summit Township, Erie County, PA.
This radar was put into place in response to NOAA's closing of the National Weather Service station at the Erie International airport. This area has unique weather especially in the early to mid-winter when cold air from Canada flows over Lake Erie producing Lake Effect snow. The radars from Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Buffalo are unable to detect this.
When this station was first constructed, it was surrounded by a sphere with the stations logo. They found that it interfered with the radar's effectiveness so it was removed.
Is the radar operational?: Yes
