A small "town hall" (though this building is not officially used as such).
Over the front door is a stone tablet:
IN GRATEFUL REMEMBRANCE OF THE BRAVE SOLDIERS OF ESSEX WHO LOST THEIR LIVES IN THE SERVICE OF THEIR COUNTRY DURING THE WAR FOR THE PRESERVATION OF THE UNION 1861 & 1865 |
33 names follow the inscription. A 34th name was apparently added later on the bottom edge of the tablet.
The building is a fully equipped as a theatre, home venue of the Essex Community Players, the oldest continuously functioning amateur theatre group in Vermont.
