The Corn Exchange Bank opened in New York in 1853. One of its branches was apparently here near the corner of Flatbush and Eighth Avenues in Brooklyn, not far from Grand Army Plaza. Later it merged with Chemical Bank and ultimately became part of JP Morgan Chase. Lo and behold, there is a Chase bank operating out of this same location today.

According to Mr. Fonville's account, the specific name of the bank used here means that the sign postdates 1929 but predates 1954.
