Near the centre of the small, 'deep south' Thai city of Yala, capital of the province of the same name, is a street roundabout fountain, which contains as its centrepiece, a stylised statue of a bird. The roundabout is at the intersection of two major roads, not too far from the river. The inscription on the base of the fountain states (so I am told) that the bird represents peace. It is not the most impressive piece of artwork I have seen, but it is certainly noticeable in the quiet streets of the city.
