The book is in front of the office, publicly accessible. Nothing fancy, just a large binder with a lot of paper signed by previous visitors. I included extra information so I could receive periodical updates and news letters.
There is also a state park stamp located with the book which is HUGE, comparatively speaking and offers an imprint of the Washington Monument found here, about a quarter mile away down the Appalachian Trail. They give you paper, ink it up for you and let you stamp it yourself if you want. There is also another stamp for the South Mountain site but that worked horribly.
The monument museum features historical artifacts related to the history of Washington Monument and the Battle of South Mountain. It is open on weekends only in April and October, and seven days a week from May through September. It is closed during the winter. They were very friendly and allowed picture taking as well as walked around with me and gave me a tour, explaining what i was seeing. Parking is 25 feet away in the lot.
