Lawrie Cemetery is located one mile west of Highway 77 on Coltrane Avenue. This is a very rural area. The cemetery is surrounded by a chain link fence and dates back to the late 1800s.
There are many members of the Gooch family buried here - 77 to be exact. These two matching headstones appear to be for a brother and sister, based on the dates. As one walks through cemeteries, we are reminded of how many people died in infancy and early childhood back in those days.
These headstones are concrete with a curved top, and the lettering has been gouged in by hand. He was 15 months old; she was 15 years. The stones read:
