The Tammalang Port is located in the Thai province of Satun, which abuts Malaysia on the west coast of the Malay peninsula. The port facilities are rather large in comparison to other Thai ferry spots I have seen. I was told, though it was not apparent at the time of my visit, that this ferry was frequently busy. The principal group of visitors are Malaysians, who come to Satun for R&R and to visit their relatives (Satun has a sizeable Malay/Muslim population). Thus the ferry port is also an immigration check point. There is also traffic north to other spots along the west coast of Thailand. The ferry service operates around the clock.
The ferry itself has a full range of services, gift shops, food & drink, sellers of ferry tickets, beggars and a few young people hanging around. About ten minutes by car from the city of Satun.
