The history of Burntside Lodge goes back to the early 1900’s when the property was used as a hunting camp and was likely one of the first outfitters in the Ely area. The lodge was constructed in 1914 from local timber. The following year the boathouse was built, and by the early ‘20’s more than a dozen cabins were added. By the 1930’s 28 cabins offered comfortable accomodatons for tourists from all over the country, and their dining room provided a fine cuisine. Activities included shuffleboard, cookouts and island breakfasts, skits, bingo, and dancing.
This resort still enjoys a fine reputation for comfortable lodging and northwoods hospitality. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988 with the #88000896
