I have a suspicion that this pub name is rather fanciful.

It would be reasonable to expect a pub called The Mill to be close to an existing mill or on the site of or close to the site of an old mill. However, this site doesn't seem likely. An 1881 map shows this as a built up area with no stream and not even a pub on this site.

This area of Bedfordshire and in particular Bedford, is rather flat with a large, slow flowing river nearby. This is not the sort of location that lends itself to a millstream.
