Jefferson County was created with the county seat at Rigby on Feb. 18, 1913 from part of Fremont County. This historic Art Deco style Jefferson County Courthouse was designed by Johnson J. Mickelson in 1938. The courthouse was placed on the National Register on Sept. 27, 1987. In 2007, the county moved out of the building and into a new courthouse. In Oct. 2010, the newly created Liberty Montessori Academy moved into the building.
