Bethany has several very large parks, including Eldon Lyon Park, McFarland Park, Ripper Park and the Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge. This park is located just south of the library. A granite monument with an etched picture of Cecil Mendenall stands in the park which reads:
"Cecil E. Mendenall Park / This park is named in honor of Cecil E. Mendenall, first Executive Director of the Bethany Chamber of Commerce. During his years of service from 1984 to 1996, the Chamber achieved financial stability. Business membership grew over four-fold, and the annual Fourth of July Family Fun Festival became a Bethany tradition. It is to Cecil's leadership, a love for the City of Bethany, and a devotion to the Chamber that this park is dedicated on the 28th day of June 1997."
The park is bordered by N. W. 35th Street on the north and N. Mueller Avenue on the west. It has a large pond which is the happy home of quite a few ducks and geese. The City parks are open to the public from 5:00AM to 11:00PM. This park has some playground equipment - swings and slide, which is the older type, pipe equipment. There is a baseball field, and some concrete picnic tables. The ground is level and wooded and a peaceful scene with the pond.
