Renaissance fortress / castle was founded in 1582 by Zdenek of Wallenstein. The building was the highlight of architectural art of this time.
John Amos Comenius (
visit link) lived here before leaving the Czech. During the era of Thirty Years War the castel belonged the Wallenstein family (

During the war, the castle burned and destroyed. After the war, the mansion bought the Harrach family (
visit link) . After 1945 the castle belonged to manage state institution. Since 1954 the castle belongs to the municipality Horní Branná. The castle houses a museum John Amos Comenius.
