The Land of Lincoln can never have enough Lincoln statues, clearly, as each year, more pop up in public spaces. This statue is a bust of Lincoln, including just below his neck, showing a touch of the upper body. It is of gray granite and life size. The significance of the statue is two-fold. First, to advertise and promote the Hall of Presidents, full of life-sized wax mannequins of all the presidents on view and of course to recognize and remind visitors of Lincoln's memorable Gettysburg Address.
Next to this statue is an identical one in form and composition of President Eisenhower. Dwight D. (Ike) Eisenhower had a long history with the Gettysburg area. He lived here as a young man who had just married, calling it their first home. Also, he had a farm here which the President used as a weekend retreat and a meeting place for world leaders. The president spent a lot of time there especially in the summertime.
