The City, which administers the surrounding province of the same name, of Nakhon Si Thammarat, lies 700kms or so south of Bangkok along the long, sinuous Malay Peninsular. Due to its geographical position, on a major trade route Peninsular, the city has played a major role in the business and politics of the region. Documenting this interesting history is a new museum, built and administered by the City government. It is located to the north of the town, near a royal park.
The Museum consists of four adjoining, multi-level buildings, centred around an open, grassed area. The contents of the museum include displays and diorama which describe the history of the city, the various ethnic groups which are or were involved with the city, and contemporary events. Photography is allowed, or at least not forbidden. Certainly worth a visit.
Not sure of the fee structure. I was allowed entry, with a smile.
