From the Andover Township website:
In 1760, Allen and Turner of Philadelphia built a blast furnace and forge on a branch of the Pequest River, in the present Andover Borough. It is not known when operations really began at this location. An inscribed date of 1761 on one of the buildings does not mean that a previous operation had not been there. Colonel John Hackett managed the operation, until his death in 1766.
