F.X. Schmid war bis 1996 ein bedeutender deutscher Verlag für Spielkarten (traditionelle Kartenspiele und Quartette), Brettspiele und Puzzle. Er galt als einer der großen europäischen Hersteller. 1995 betrug der Umsatz 67 Millionen DM und man zählte etwa 250 Angestellte und Mitarbeiter.

Der deutsche Unternehmer Franz Xaver Schmid gründete 1860 in München den Verlag, in dem Spielwaren und Karten hergestellt wurden. Der Betrieb wurde dann 1915 als Vereinigte Münchener Spielkarten-Fabriken geführt. Im Zweiten Weltkrieg verlagerte das Unternehmen seinen Sitz nach Prien am Chiemsee. Dort begann dann auch 1955 die Herstellung und Produktion von Gesellschaftsspielen und Puzzles. 1977 wurde der Standort baulich erweitert. Es gab eine Zweigstelle in den Vereinigten Staaten.

Heute befindet sich im Haus eine Tanzschule und Kampfsportschule sowie eine Psychtherapeutische Praxis.

The German businessman Franz Xaver Schmid founded 1860 in Munich, a company that produced toys and cards. The operation was then performed in Munich in 1915 as a United game card factory. During the Second World War, the company relocated its headquarters to Prien am Chiemsee. There they began 1955 the manufacture and production of board games and puzzles. In 1977 the building was structurally expanded. There was a branch in the United States, too.

Today the house is a dance school and a martial arts school and a psychotherapeutic practice.
