This sign is a historic memento of the Aztec Bowling Lanes which used to be located here.
The plaque at the site tells the story:
"AZTEC BOWL
AZTEC BOWL WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1959 BY JOSEPH AND
NORMA ST. VILLE. IT WAS A SAN DIEGO LANDMARK
OWNED AND OPERATED BY THE ST. VILLE FAMILY WHO
WERE COMMITTED TO BRINGING THE BEST BOWLING
EXPERIENCE TO THE NORTH PARK COMMUNITY. THE
BOWLING FACILITY PROVIDED BOWLERS WITH THE
FINEST VENUE FOR THEIR SPORT. THE "TURQOISE
LOUNGE" AT THE AZTEC BOWL, WITH ITS RETRO
DECOR, WAS A FAVORITE WATERING HOLE AND MUSIC
SCENE FOR LOCALS FROM 1960 TO 2001. THE GREATER
NORTH PARK COMMUNITY WILL LONG REMEMBER THE
ST. VILLE FAMILY'S CONTRIBUTIONS.
THE AZTEC LANE HOMES BUILT ON THE AZTEC BOWL
SITE FEATURE ENTRIES MADE OF MATERIALS FROM THE
BOWLING LANES. THE DISTINCTIVE AZTEC BOWL SIGN
IS A REMINDER OF THE SITE'S UNIQUE HISTORY.
