The Captain James Loomis House is a two-story masonry house with a pitched roof, and is 4 bays wide by 2 bays deep. The house was built in a transitional Federal and Greek Revival style. The elliptical transom and flat-arches are from the Federal period. The wide entablature and pediment are Greek Revival style influences. The house retains much of its original integrity and is a good example of the transitional style.

The house was built by Captain James Loomis about 1828 and one of many Loomis houses built along this street.
