Born July 31, 1868 ~ Died April 10, 1955 Daughter of General Joseph Wheeler Gallantly served her country three times on foreign soil. Volunteer nurse, Santiago, Cuba~1898. Spanish~American War and Manila, P.I. ~1899 during Philippine Insurrection. Red Cross Worker with A.E.F. France, World War I ~1918. Beloved as a humanitarian and benefactor of mankind. Erected 1955 by the General Joseph Wheeler Memorial Association. Pond Spring, the home of Gen. Joe Wheeler, is being restored by the Alabama Historical Commission and reopening to the public is planned for 2012.
