Lincoln County was established on March 18, 1895 with the county seat at Shoshone, Idaho. The county was originally much larger, but the creation of Gooding (1913), Minidoka (1913) and Jerome (1919) counties reduced it to its current size of 1,206 square miles. The courthouse was built in 1904 and continues to serve as the center of Lincoln County services. The courthouse is a contributing building for the Shoshone Historic District.
