This monument is a small brass plaque attached to a granite monument. Behind the monument are a couple of flag poles. The monumnet is located at the Exchange Hotel in Gordsonville, VA. The monumnet text is:
IN MEMORY OF
THE SOLDIERS, BOTH CONFEDERATE
AND UNION, WHO DIED HERE
AT THE EXCHANGE HOTEL.
USED DURING THE CIVIL WAR AS THE
GENERAL RECEIVING HOSPITAL.
GORDONSVILLE, VA
1861-1865
Gordonsville, VA is located at the crossing of two railroads and became an important transportation center for the Confederacy. The hospital treated approximately 70,000 wounded soldiers. Over 700 died at the hospital and were buried near the hosptial. Those dead were later moved to Maplewood Cemetery in Gordonsville.
