This sculpture by Larry Kirkland defintiely grabs your attention.
It depicts a head with two faces with a center opening with a golden plumb-bob dangling inside. The plumb-bob is a tool used in construction for finding a true verticle.
The sculpture is made of Carrara marble, cast bronze and gold leaf.
This website (visit link) informs us of the symbolism:

"Janus was the Roman god of gates and doorways, and of beginnings and endings. His head had two faces, one looking forward into the future and one looking into the past. Frequently he symbolized new beginnings and change.

Combining the head of Janus and the plumb-bob, a tool of construction, links the Municipal Office Building to its place in Denver's history. A new civic building sits in a city with a rich past and an exciting future; the head of Janus looks both to the east, where the United States began, and to the west, where pioneers and explorers carved a new life in the wilderness. Inscriptions on the pavement remind the viewer of Denver's location in the larger world, and celebrate the historic development of the city.
