Stadium of Fire is part of America's Freedom Festival at Provo, one of the largest patriotic celebrations in the United States, with roots going back to the 1870s -- well before Utah officially became a state. Although the event is usually held on the 4th of July, it has occasionally been moved to the Friday or Saturday nearest Independence Day, the better to attract more customers. (In 2011, for example, Stadium of Fire was staged on July 2.)
While Stadium of Fire always includes a concert headliner (often a country music singer) for stadium ticket holders, the fireworks portion of the show can be seen for miles around, free of charge. The concert starts around 8 p.m., but the fireworks display doesn't begin until nightfall. Grab a blanket, your sweetheart and a container of mosquito repellent, find a good vantage point and let the pyrotechnics fly!
