St. Gumbertus gehört zusammen mit ihrer Nachbarkirche St. Johannis zu den zentralen Innenstadtkirchen von Ansbach. Das St. Gumbert, der Heiligen Maria und St. Salvator geweihte Kloster wurde gegründet durch den Hl. Gumbert. 748 bis 911/1012 war es ein Benediktinerkloster; später ein Kollegiatstift. Es wurde 1563 aufgelöst, die Propstei nicht mehr besetzt. Die St.-Gumbertus-Kirche und Teile des Stifts sind erhalten. Die Kirche dient als Evangelisch-Lutherische Stadtpfarrkirche.

St. Gumbertus belongs together with its neighboring Church of St. John to the central city churches of Ansbach. The St. Gumbert, St. Mary and St. Salvator sacred monastery was founded by St. Gumbert. 748 to 911/1012, it was a Benedictine monastery and later a collegiate. It was disbanded in 1563, no longer occupied the provost. The St. Gumbertus church and part of the congregation have been preserved. Now the church is the Evangelical Lutheran Parish in Ansbach.
