Located on Canal St, this large statue is of the only President of the Confederate States of America. The statue was placed in 1911 and stood here until it was removed and placed in storage 11 May 2017.

Located in the middle ground of the Jefferson Davis Pkwy. at the Canal St. intersection from 1911-2017. Very tall statue, and in great condition, both the base and the statue itself. According the the SIRIS website, the statue is 6 feet 4 inches tall and was sculpted by Edward Virginius Valentine. Dedicated in 1911.
Jefferson Davis was born in 1808 and died in 1889. He was the first President of the Confederate States of America. He also before the Civil War, was a graduate of West Point, was a US Senator twice and the US Secretary of War under President Franklin Pierce. He died in New Orleans, was originally buried in the Metairie Cemetery then later re-entombed at the Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, VA.
