Amid much fanfare and optimism, the Ben Franklin Bridge was finished on July 1, 1926, its 533-metre span made it the world's longest suspension bridge span, a distinction it would hold until the opening of the Ambassador Bridge in 1929. It was an engineering marvel. Now, people could finally travel back and forth between the two cities with ease.
The date stones and bridge are all in terrific shape, constantly being rehabbed. The date is above the side entrance to the 'house'. You can walk right up to it. I have also walked the span of the bridge a few times as there is pedestrian walkways. The two dates are easily accessible. This one is accessible from Pearl Street which is right next to the baseball stadium where the Camden Riversharks play. Do not visit here at night as you may not make it out alive.
