A border crossing with nothing to stop you entering Wales or England.
Although this is the current border, the wars over the line that separated Wales and England was under dispute for many years.
In fact the original border of Wales was so far into England that Ludlow used to be the capital of Wales. Ludlow Castle was the seat of the Council of Wales and the Marches and a temporary home to several holders of the title Prince of Wales.
There is a layby to the east nearby theses cords to pop out and run back to the two signs that show 'Welcome to Powys' and 'Welcome to Shropshire'.
There is a small 'no-mans-land' of sorts between these two signs, which this lay-by usefully falls exactly between.
