This “Tree cookie" is a 2.3 metre cross section from a coast Douglas-fir cut down in British Columbia in the 1890’s when it was more than 500 years old.
The cross-section showing the growth rings is mounted on a wall on the second floor of the Royal Ontario Museum, at the western entrance to the Schad Gallery of Biodiversity. This display is also close to the Bat caves.
The cross section is displayed to show significant dates in history, when compared to the growth of the tree.
